Spedify

Turned out pretty awesome, I think. Probably my new favorite of your lot. : ) The melody and leading instrument change up a lot without sacrificing the trance feel of things. The beat and ambiance do a lot to help that, and the result is something someone can zone out to that isn't something you'll regret listening to if you're paying attention, which seems pretty rare in the genre.

good show, Erik, and good luck in the competition! : )

yay a review!

Funkalicious!

I get you more reviews by making mine have such a terrible title people won't be able to resist trying to push it off the bottom of the page! :o GENIUS? I think maybe.

Song is funky and I adore it. Some of the instruments sound pretty disco, and the slayer thing sounds more like a laser beam than a guitar, which just kinda helps the whole thing. Incredibly spiff! :D

I'd complain that it gets repetitive save the fact I'm listening to it for something like the third time, so I guess I'm in no position to complain.

Creative!

You've got an awesome instrument variety that I frankly envy a little going on here, and the arrangement is pretty creative, but the mastering needs work. The whole thing's got a bit of static going on, and there's a slight bit of distortion around the accordion at the one minute marker. Also, while it could be a lot worse, your instruments all seem pretty loud, and fight for attention quite a bit.

There's worse things, certainly. Your ability to arrange the instruments creatively and make something original out of an established melody are pretty up there, you just need to hone in on your mastering a bit more.

Not bad.

Your lead synth's a tad loud, and it's shrillness paired with that isn't doing the overall audio quality any favors - you've got a little distortion going on through the whole thing. If you tone down the lead synth just a tad, that would probably help it out a lot. Otherwise, it's not a bad rendition, but could use a little more meat to it than just simply copying the tune of the source material.

Rhyhart responds:

Yea that very understandable I will definitely tune down the lead synth. Thanks for the feedback.

Love the concept.

Bowser's original castle theme's a hard one to work with, for sure, but the idea that it's Mario being the tyrant is pretty spiff, and the song suits that idea really well. Good work!

Thanks for the comments and good review! Very glad you appreciated the work that went in ^ ^

Mixed feelings

You spend thirty seconds getting to what sounds like the real start of the song when that's the time you should be spending getting the listener hooked on it in the first place.

And it's a shame you didn't, too, as that opening 30 seconds is just... not appealing. The first thing that one hears is a detuned, wonky pad and then another pad after it, neither of which are remotely necessary. The only reason I got past it was because I got caught up checking reviews wondering how the score was high.

Because of that, I hit the minute marker, where things pick up and something just clicks. All sails well until the 2:30 marker, where the pad returns, by itself, interrupting a rather magnificent flow. One offense was almost forgivable despite it's unfortunate placement, but it seems a bit unwise to go back to the song's weak point, though I will commend that at around 3 minutes it blends the pads together a tad and that works much better. I think those things just weren't meant to play solo.

There's a lot right about this, so it's kinda sad that one thing drags it down so much. The all-out disco/rock bits are pretty awesome, and when you get the song into full swing you do wonders with it. It's just that one thing that drags this down, but it drags it down hard. :/

Hush hush

It's decent, but way, WAY too quiet. I had to turn my volume up to about twice what it was just to hear it compared to what I'd been listening to the rest of the audio portal with. Up the volume a bit.

mrpibbs1 responds:

Ok yeah I had the volume down in FL Studio so I could have it on with headphones while talking to my friend so I'll re-upload with with a higher volume.
Edit: Okay I re-uploaded the song now like 50% more amplified.

Yowza!

The bulk of the original soundtrack for Spinball was kinda meh imo. The fact you got something this awesome out of that foundation? kudos to you, sir.

Completely awesome, and an amazing remix of a song I never thought could have one. Merrily proven wrong! :)

PaulyBFromDa303 responds:

Yeah it seems a lot of people didnt expect that. And apparently, and I realized this AFTER I psoted this song, nobody's made a Spinball remix yet. I'm even amazed.

Well thanks a lot. I'm glad you like

EPIC MAJESTY IS EPIC AND MAJESTIC

HOLY CRAP, MAN! 8C That guitar is really sample-based?! The whole mess sounds awesome. reminds me of Guilty Gear / BlazBlue's tunes (don' recall the guy's name, sadly), or even a bit Nightwish. All good points.

It is epic, it is power! I am in awe! :o

rtnario responds:

Believe it. =) It's really meant to be a symphonic metal piece, and you can thank EliteFerrex for the original melody...which was completely in 8-bit, mind you XD Thanks so much for the review, the 4 favs I saw and the fav on me!

Awesome

Never heard the original, but can't let that stop this.

Sounds more SNES than NES (reminds me of something between Earthbound's town themes and a cheery 16-bit platformer), but that's really irrelevant beyond how you titled the song. Instant fave, sir! :)

rtnario responds:

But all I used was Magical8bitPlug and famisynth which are both NES VSTs :< Maybe it's the effects I applied XD Thanks!
