Purteh c:

It's a nice, ambient sort of loop thing. The plucky instrument of choice sounds a bit under-mastered, like it could use a little bit of reverb or something to better match the strings and choir-like noise (I adore that choir! Where did you get that choir? D: Is that even a choir at all?).

It's calming and beautiful and whoever gave you that 2 vote that was there when I showed up is a massive jerk. >:C

Lalalo14 responds:

Hahah yeah! This is just me trying out my new VST's so it's nothing serious.
I recently bought the Komplete 7 pack, so the choirs you hear is from the Kontakt 4 Library.

Thanks for the review! :)

Good melody.

The melody itself is good, though you repeat parts of it a bit too much imo. The volume also seems to waver in and out throughout the song to such an extent that more than once I thought you were just fading out to end it, except it came back and kept going. I'm not sure why you'd have the audio do that, like if you were trying to simulate softer notes or what, but it's really distracting as it is and could use some work.

But yes, the piano sounds nice and I do like the melody. The details and production need a little work, but otherwise there's not much to complain about here.

thanks!

yeah, I was trying to do some expressive phrasing with the volume automation, i guess i overdid it

Not bad.

The melody and such is nice. I'm with the other guy, some sort of bassline might lend itself fairly well to this, but aside from that you might want to try an actual bell or chime or something for certain parts of the lead synth there, as that would probably lend itself well to the "icy" feel you're assumedly going for. The drums seem a bit intrusive on the rest of the song, as well, but that could be the speakers I've got going for me right now, so don't muss with them on my account, but keep it in mind I guess.

Insert Witty Title

I wou dup looking up the source material for reference, and have to say you pulled out the better parts of the melody rather nicely. The entire balance of the instruments brings more attention to the catchy bits than the original did, which makes this a lot more memorable in my mind.

The speakers I'm stuck with at the moment don't give me the best ability to judge the EQ or bassline here (though I do hear one in there), but my only real complaint at this point is that the synth that comes in about halfway through seems pretty sharp at first, it kinda comes out of nowhere, and seems a little out of place with the rest of the instrumentation. The piano stuff is all gorgeous and the atmosphere sounds pretty good, tho, so it's largely a very solid mix.

Very nice

The song is very pretty, but it feels a bit odd that it just fades out at the end. The length is fine, and most of the instrumentation sounds really nice. The flutes at the end seem a smidgen loud and harsh against the rest, like they weren't mixed in the best, but their melody is decent despite that. The fact that the song fades shortly after their introduction makes me wonder if you hadn't originally intended to do more with them, though.

But yes. Beautiful song, and for the most part very well put together. c:

Thanks for the great review. Too be honest I was a little lost for inspiration with this song because it was something I started last year. However I figured I should finish it and spent a couple days trying to come up with a good ending and that's what I had when all was said and done. I was happy with the overall outcome but if I had finished it soon after starting it the ending would definitely have been different.

Good as Always : )

Constantly evolving and shifting style is what I loved about Time Machine, and it's back in form for this, albeit in a much different shell. Your songs always tend to give me some decent mental imagry, and this ranks up on the list. As always, a very good job is done keeping things interesting. I'll agree with Corona that the shift around 1:40 is a bit drastic, but ff me that just helps establish the song's little narrative that exists in my own tiny world.

Keep up the good work, sir. : )

Nice and bouncy. : )

Good, upbeat chiptune that makes me sad I'm stuck with the crummy office speakers at the moment. Even with these things, I can hear a decent amount of layering and variation in the melody. The ending wears a bit thin, for whatever reason, but not enough to really bring down the song or anything. That's also about the only complaint I can come up with at the moment, so not too bad, and better than most of the week's top 5, certainly. :x

Keep up the good work. : )

Loud and Harsh

The lead synth is above and beyond loud, and isn't unique or even tolerable enough to demand that kind of attention. Overall, the song sounds very generic, with a leading melody that sounds like, well... every other techno/dance song.

While it's not outright awful, nothing really stands out to me as unique or notably well-done. :/ Sorry.

Don't do that! :s

Repeating the same 16 measure melody for 3 minutes, trance or not, will get old. You have some slight bits of variance through the song, but it's generally just the same thing endlessly with some volumes changing over the course of the song. It's a pirate-like melody, it could eaily be expanded upon and add some variance to the song without hampering the "trance" part of the equation at all.

Aside from that the production is nothing to write home about, but not terribly offensive, so things could be worse, and redundancy aside the brief melody that is there, while a bit of squandered promise, isn't at all bad. You just need more to it, and a little refinement.

Guitar is needless.

I'd say the melody, while basic, is adequate, but would have benefitted more from something besides the guitar entirely. The synth background you've got paints a rather mystical picture to start, but the guitars and to a lesser extent the loud drums kinda break that down and leave something that feels really generic in its wake. :/

As for the guitar's quality, while it's possible to get something better out of FL, it would take a lot more work than the demo will let you pull off sans saving, but in this case I think another instrument FL is naturally better with, like a more prominent synth, would've fit in better with the song overall. .-.

As is, for the demo it's not bad, but you've quite a bit to learn yet.

JackLiddle responds:

Thanks ^^ I appreciate long reviews :D

and yes, if I had more time/could go back to it, I would definately polish it up. Also I never did finish the tutorial I was reading on FL studio... I think I'll finish that, aswell as finally buying the full version.
