Purteh c:

It's a nice, ambient sort of loop thing. The plucky instrument of choice sounds a bit under-mastered, like it could use a little bit of reverb or something to better match the strings and choir-like noise (I adore that choir! Where did you get that choir? D: Is that even a choir at all?).

It's calming and beautiful and whoever gave you that 2 vote that was there when I showed up is a massive jerk. >:C

Lalalo14 responds:

Hahah yeah! This is just me trying out my new VST's so it's nothing serious.
I recently bought the Komplete 7 pack, so the choirs you hear is from the Kontakt 4 Library.

Thanks for the review! :)

Good melody.

The melody itself is good, though you repeat parts of it a bit too much imo. The volume also seems to waver in and out throughout the song to such an extent that more than once I thought you were just fading out to end it, except it came back and kept going. I'm not sure why you'd have the audio do that, like if you were trying to simulate softer notes or what, but it's really distracting as it is and could use some work.

But yes, the piano sounds nice and I do like the melody. The details and production need a little work, but otherwise there's not much to complain about here.

OcularNebula responds:

thanks!

yeah, I was trying to do some expressive phrasing with the volume automation, i guess i overdid it

Very nice

The song is very pretty, but it feels a bit odd that it just fades out at the end. The length is fine, and most of the instrumentation sounds really nice. The flutes at the end seem a smidgen loud and harsh against the rest, like they weren't mixed in the best, but their melody is decent despite that. The fact that the song fades shortly after their introduction makes me wonder if you hadn't originally intended to do more with them, though.

But yes. Beautiful song, and for the most part very well put together. c:

Thanks for the great review. Too be honest I was a little lost for inspiration with this song because it was something I started last year. However I figured I should finish it and spent a couple days trying to come up with a good ending and that's what I had when all was said and done. I was happy with the overall outcome but if I had finished it soon after starting it the ending would definitely have been different.

Guitar is needless.

I'd say the melody, while basic, is adequate, but would have benefitted more from something besides the guitar entirely. The synth background you've got paints a rather mystical picture to start, but the guitars and to a lesser extent the loud drums kinda break that down and leave something that feels really generic in its wake. :/

As for the guitar's quality, while it's possible to get something better out of FL, it would take a lot more work than the demo will let you pull off sans saving, but in this case I think another instrument FL is naturally better with, like a more prominent synth, would've fit in better with the song overall. .-.

As is, for the demo it's not bad, but you've quite a bit to learn yet.

JackLiddle responds:

Thanks ^^ I appreciate long reviews :D

and yes, if I had more time/could go back to it, I would definately polish it up. Also I never did finish the tutorial I was reading on FL studio... I think I'll finish that, aswell as finally buying the full version.

Turned out pretty awesome, I think. Probably my new favorite of your lot. : ) The melody and leading instrument change up a lot without sacrificing the trance feel of things. The beat and ambiance do a lot to help that, and the result is something someone can zone out to that isn't something you'll regret listening to if you're paying attention, which seems pretty rare in the genre.

good show, Erik, and good luck in the competition! : )

ErikMcClure responds:

yay a review!

Not bad.

Your lead synth's a tad loud, and it's shrillness paired with that isn't doing the overall audio quality any favors - you've got a little distortion going on through the whole thing. If you tone down the lead synth just a tad, that would probably help it out a lot. Otherwise, it's not a bad rendition, but could use a little more meat to it than just simply copying the tune of the source material.

Rhyhart responds:

Yea that very understandable I will definitely tune down the lead synth. Thanks for the feedback.

Love the concept.

Bowser's original castle theme's a hard one to work with, for sure, but the idea that it's Mario being the tyrant is pretty spiff, and the song suits that idea really well. Good work!

vampiricLLAMA responds:

Thanks for the comments and good review! Very glad you appreciated the work that went in ^ ^

Hush hush

It's decent, but way, WAY too quiet. I had to turn my volume up to about twice what it was just to hear it compared to what I'd been listening to the rest of the audio portal with. Up the volume a bit.

mrpibbs1 responds:

Ok yeah I had the volume down in FL Studio so I could have it on with headphones while talking to my friend so I'll re-upload with with a higher volume.
Edit: Okay I re-uploaded the song now like 50% more amplified.

Yowza!

The bulk of the original soundtrack for Spinball was kinda meh imo. The fact you got something this awesome out of that foundation? kudos to you, sir.

Completely awesome, and an amazing remix of a song I never thought could have one. Merrily proven wrong! :)

PaulyBFromDa303 responds:

Yeah it seems a lot of people didnt expect that. And apparently, and I realized this AFTER I psoted this song, nobody's made a Spinball remix yet. I'm even amazed.

Well thanks a lot. I'm glad you like

EPIC MAJESTY IS EPIC AND MAJESTIC

HOLY CRAP, MAN! 8C That guitar is really sample-based?! The whole mess sounds awesome. reminds me of Guilty Gear / BlazBlue's tunes (don' recall the guy's name, sadly), or even a bit Nightwish. All good points.

It is epic, it is power! I am in awe! :o

rtnario responds:

Believe it. =) It's really meant to be a symphonic metal piece, and you can thank EliteFerrex for the original melody...which was completely in 8-bit, mind you XD Thanks so much for the review, the 4 favs I saw and the fav on me!
